Study visit of representatives of Armenia on EU best practices in consumer rights protection
  • On October 19-20, 2023, a study visit of 4 representatives from the Ministry of Economy of Armenia took place at UOKiK.
  • It was organized in cooperation with the Directorate General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) within the framework of the EU Taiex project.
  • Its subject was the exchange of EU best practices in the field of consumer rights protection.

Armenia's Ministry of Economy is responsible for drafting consumer protection policies and creating a relevant legal framework. It is currently facing the challenge of developing an amendment to the law "On Protection of Consumer Rights" as envisaged by the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the European Union. The meeting with UOKiK experts was aimed at learning about the institutional and legal solutions adopted in Poland. During the two-day visit, the competencies of the Office and other institutions forming the consumer protection system were presented, as well as the principles of cooperation between them (including non-governmental consumer organizations, consumer ombudsmen, regulators). The most important developments in consumer protection legislation were discussed, including e-commerce regulations. Armenian representatives were also interested in the functioning of the system of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and consumer complaint management.

The study visit of the experts from the Ministry of Economy is another initiative within the framework of UOKiK cooperation with Armenia's administration institutions in the field of consumer protection. In 2022 the Office signed an agreement with the Armenian Competition Protection Commission (CPC), whose tasks include the practical implementation of consumer protection. In 2021 and 2022, UOKiK implemented two Polish Aid projects for this institution.
